On July 1, 1898, in Odesa the 'Classes of Merchant Marine Navigation' were solemnly opened at the Odesa Commercial School. The building (an architectural monument) was constructed in 1902-1903 and still houses of the college today.

In 2000, the college was listed in the international register of maritime educational institutions of the world.

In 2005, the college was certified by BUREAU VERITAS for compliance with the ISO 9001:2000 quality system and regularly undergoes control and recertification audits.

In 2008, it became the part of the National University 'Odesa Maritime Academy.' The college can use the material and technical base of the university.
